FAQ
When does the school year begin and end? The school year runs from the end of August to June and is split into three terms.
What year groups are taught at St. Andrews, Sukhumvit 107? St. Andrews is open for students aged 2-16 (Nursery - Year 11). Next year we will add Year 12.
What curriculum does St. Andrews, Sukhumvit 107 follow? We offer a British International Education following the broad and challenging English National Curriculum for students 2 to 16 years old. Currently we offer iGSCE's for Years 10 and 11 and have been approved as an IB candidate school and will begin to provide the IB Diploma for Years 12 and 13 from August 2012.
Where are the teaching staff from and what type of qualifications do they possess? The majority of our teaching staff are from the UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. All possess UK recognised teaching degrees and may also hold Masters Degrees.
With which organisations is St. Andrew’s accredited? We are accredited by the CfBT (Centre for British Teaching) and licensed by the Thai Ministry of Education and accredited through ONESQA (Sor mor Sor) the international schools inspection body. We have been granted status as a CIE Centre (University of Cambridge International Examinations) and an official candidate school for the IB Diploma programme.
How long is the school day? Reception through to Secondary School is from 8:10 a.m to 2:30 p.m Monday to Friday, Kindergarten have the option of attending five half days from 8:10am to 12 noon, or five full days from 8:10am to 2:30pm. Nursery children can choose to attend three days or five days per week and their classes run from 8.10am to 12 noon.
After school activities for children in the Primary and Secondary School run from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45pm.
What are your class sizes? There is a maximum of 22 children per class.
What transportation is available to St. Andrews students? For most of the children who live around the premises of the school, their own personal transportation is used. We also provide a bus transportation option at an extra cost. The school is at the foot of Bearing BTS (sky train) making the school very accessible from any part of Central Bangkok.
Does the school have a canteen? Yes, our canteen offers healthy morning snacks as well as a buffet lunch. The lunch buffet consists of Western, Thai and vegetarian dishes, as well as, Asian noodle soup, salad bar and fresh fruits for dessert. Children may also bring their own food from home.
What languages are taught at St. Andrews? Currently we offer Thai in accordance with the law for international schools in Thailand and options of Mandarin or French from Year 3.
What specialist instruction is provided? St. Andrews has special instruction in Music, Visual Arts, Drama, IT, Physical Education, and Library.
What special assistance is available for students? St. Andrews offers limited spaces in Learning Support and English as an Additional Language Programmes.
What extra-curricular activities are available for my child? St. Andrews offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities each term, including sports, arts and music and we have a number of squads who compete with other schools across Bangkok in various sports.
How can parents be involved with the school community? For most big events our parents usually volunteer support, such as participating in sports events during Sports days, donating food for celebrations such as Songkran and Christmas, leading country groups at International Day and other social events. Our parents also take part in workshops offered throughout the school year.
When should students apply? St. Andrews observes a rolling admission's policy. If space allows and the assessment criteria met, children can join the school throughout the year.
