FoSTA's 2011 FINISH.
The end of the year was quite busy for FoSTA (Friends of St Andrews) parents juggling heavily between collaborating closely with the Student Council to raise funds for the less fortunate who have been heavily inundated by the nation’s worst flood calamity, while ensuring that the spirit of Christmas was clearly present in the campus. Various fundraisers were organized to collect donations ranging from Non-Uniform Fridays, Movember (the international moustache growing fundraiser in November for Cancer Awareness in Men), and Bake Sales. Simultaneously, with the most festive season of Christmas just beginning, Christmas Envelopes and the Shoebox Gift Appeal concluded in a successful end. With some of the money collected used for the purchase of items needed in the Bucket Set project, all the remaining was donated to the Thai Red Cross.
Flood ravaged Rainbow House, an orphanage located on the outskirts of Bangkok for disabled orphans from 2-21 years of age was designated as this year’s chosen charity. Over 200 plastic buckets sets containing cleaning and food necessities were assembled by every member of the student body under the supervision of FoSTA and the Student Council. In addition, 100 “shoeboxes” lovingly decorated, put together and wrapped by a St Andrews child, containing their previously owned toys, books, clothes and other handpicked personal favourites. These bucket sets and shoeboxes were presented to a representative of the Rainbow House at the end of term assembly.
In celebration of the kind spirit and generosity exhibited by the St Andrews children, FoSTA parents finished off the term with a Christmas lunch for them. The canteen was decorated in tinsel, windows were sprayed with foam snow, and Christmas crackers were laid on the table. A Traditional Christmas buffet of turkey, stuffing and roast potatoes were followed by home baked Mince pies and trifle. It was indeed a fantastic start to the holiday season, and a fulfilling end to the first term.
