Remembrance Day 11th November 2021

Published by Isabelle Peters

Last week many countries marked Remembrance Day on 11th November. This event started over 100 years ago in Britain as a day to commemorate all those who had lost their lives in World War 1. Over the years, it has expanded to include those who have served in wars all around the world, as well as acknowledging modern-day peacekeepers and, since 2020, those in the emergency services who have worked tirelessly during the pandemic.

Here at S107, our secondary staff and students commemorated the day with a special online assembly, where students learned more about people in the armed forces directly connected to our S107 community. We also heard amazing stories of those whose lives were affected by both World War 1 and 2 and heard from our own S107 ROTC cadets about what it means for them to train as soldiers here in Thailand.

On Sunday 14th November, Mr. Carl, Miss Jeanna, Mr. Finbarr and myself were privileged to attend the Remembrance Service organised by the British Embassy, where Imogen and Lucas laid a wreath on behalf of the S107 community. This short service of commemoration was a special opportunity for us to show our respect for those from every country in the world who have given their lives for our peace and safety today. It was particularly moving for us to stand alongside embassy representatives from more than 20 different nations and international schools and organisations here in Bangkok, as we committed ourselves to work together for peace in this world.
